Steps to Citizenship
Year 1 to 2
The residency card enables you to travel freely within the Schengen countries (in addition to carrying your passport), eliminating the need for visa application. During the initial two years, a minimum of 14 days must be spent in Portugal. Upon completion of the second year, a card renewal process is required.
Year 3 to 4
The newly issued residence card remains valid for two years. Within this timeframe, it is essential to spend a minimum of an additional 14 days in Portugal, whether consecutively or non-consecutively. Upon the expiration of the period, a renewal process must be undertaken.
Year 5 and More
After the 5th year, you have the option to apply for permanent residency or citizenship, leading to the acquisition of a Portuguese passport. If you prefer not to pursue either option, you can choose to renew your Golden Visa every two years.
